Brazil 'Cafe Femenino' Organic/Fair Trade

Papaya fruit, sweet malt, and earthy flavors form a light body and clean finish in this fair trade, organic coffee that comes from the Poco Fondo cooperative, an associate of small-scale farmers located in the state of Minas Gerais, in Southwestern Brazil.

Altitude: 900m - 1200m
Type: Arabica - Mundo Novo, Catuai
Processing: Natural and dry processing

Café Femenino beans are the first and only coffee beans grown exclusively by women farmers.

What makes Cafe Femenino different from other fair trade projects?

  • The social impacts of the Cafe Femenino project are remarkable. High abuse rates toward women are decreasing in rural farming communities.
  • Many girls are now being educated. Prior to Cafe Femenino, it was common practice to educate only the boys in the family.
  • Families are slowly rising out of poverty and creating a better life because for the first time, women are in charge of their own money and their family's economics.
  • Within the Cafe Femenino model - and in the spirit of full circle philanthropy - roasters, retailers, and consumers are able to support women's centers in their own communities.
As a participating roaster in the Café Femenino project, Stauf’s Coffee Roasters is proud to commit 20% from Café Femenino sales to the Griswold Residency of YWCA Columbus, Ohio.   Since 1886, YWCA Columbus has provided affordable housing for women in transition. Today, the historic Griswold Building in downtown Columbus is home to more than 100 low-income women at any given time—many who are beginning their first jobs; recovering from drug-related, alcohol-related, and mental illnesses; or pursuing their education.
